2014 Resolutions and Goals

I guess I should set a goal of writing blog posts more often! Instead of “tomorrow” it has been two weeks since my last post and January is almost over with. It is crazy how fast this month has gone. I have accomplished a lot of crocheting, which will be highlighted in future posts. Today’s post is about 2104 resolutions and goals.

As I mentioned in my last post, 2013 From The Rearview Mirror, my only resolution last year was to walk daily and I did not do very well in keeping that resolution. In 2014 my only resolution is to continue with the changes that I made last year to make a healthier me and to fine-tune those changes throughout the year as needed.

So I will continue with the plant-based diet (nutrient-dense eating), hopefully continuing to decrease slowly the amount of sugar that I consume, as sugar seems to be the most difficult item for me to drop from my diet. And I’ll be honest and admit that most of my sugar at this point comes in the form of chocolate; most any other sugar I consume is in the natural form, such as dates, raisins, honey or maple syrup. I do try to make sure that the chocolate I consume is dark chocolate. A girl’s gotta have some vices!

I was able to drop fourteen pounds last year after starting back with the plant-based diet, but I do not really have a target weight goal. I figure if I just continue eating this way for the rest of my life (as it makes me feel very good, no stomach issues, etc.), I will slowly keep losing unnecessary weight and eventually reach the weight that is optimum for me. That’s my goal.

Another thing I will continue is the standing desk (I’m standing right now as I type this!). And I have begun walking (again!). This time around I set an alarm on my phone for 11:30 a.m. and on my sister Wendy’s birthday, January 13th, I began walking daily. I know, another sister’s birthday used as a beginning point! I’m not sure why, but that seems to work for me! It’s a good thing I have lots of siblings! Over the sixteen days since the 13th, I have walked before lunch a total of eleven days. Plus, five of those days I have walked a second time with Bill when he gets home from work. So sixteen days with sixteen walks!

Oops! There goes my phone alarm … I guess I better go walk and finish this post up later this afternoon.

I’m back! What a beautiful day for a walk, especially when I take into consideration the lousy weather that so many places in the country have been experiencing this week. I took this picture of the clouds Monday (not a cloud in the sky today):

Other things that I will continue working on (and fine-tuning my successes):

1. Keeping my Quicken accounts up to date (hopefully making it a full year in 2014!)
2. My LeapingFromTheBox.com website.

I’d like to begin the two other websites that I have had in mind for several years, but that may not be realistic, considering how much time my homeschooling website takes up. I’d also like to set up an Etsy store, possibly focusing on selling snowflakes, since they are so much fun to make and work up quickly. But those are extras, not the main focus for 2014.

2014 will be a year for building upon 2013’s successes.

Do you have a main focus for 2014?

  1. I had a resolution for this year, but it seems real life trumps an organized life. I’m learning I simply have to pick what is most important and get it done, then do everything else when time allows. Rigid schedules will not work on this farm.

    • I totally understand, Cee Gee. I never set goals or resolutions when I lived on the farm, and was barely able to plan out a day in advance. There were always emergencies and unplanned events that would mess up plans. You do what you can, get done what floats to the top as the most important, and go on from there. Thanks for commenting!

    • It is kind of funny, but even if the phone is not within hearing distance, just the fact that I know there is an alarm set keeps the idea of walking in my mind. I don’t have the alarm set for weekends, just weekdays, and I think I’ve only missed two weekdays so far and one of those was because I was at the grocery store!
