One Little Word 2019

For the last several years I have chosen one word to focus on for the ensuing year.

  • 2011 – clarity
  • 2012 – contentment
  • 2013 – sing
  • 2014 – forward
  • 2017 – open
  • 2018 – cultivate

Cultivate was definitely a good choice for 2018.  Lots of areas of my life were cultivated – new friends, new Master Gardener experiences, more family visits – in addition to much cultivation of gardens and growing things at home.

As the author of the One Little Word blog post explains:

And what do you do with this one little word?
You live with it. You invite it into your life. You let it speak to you. You might even follow where it leads. There are so many possibilities.

My Word Choice for 2019 is:  Consistent

It has a few differing definitions, but this is the one that applies to me:

  • 1 a  : marked by harmony, regularity, or steady continuity : free from variation or contradiction
  •    c : showing steady conformity to character, profession, belief, or custom

Merriam-Webster

I achieved some goals last year that were pretty important to me and I’d like to continue that progress with diet, health, and exercise.  Being constant in those areas will achieve my 2019 goals.

There remains one area of my life that needs some steady, consistent focus, though, and that is keeping on top of the financial records, specifically Quicken.  Every year I say I’ll keep current and every year I fail.  And that means January of each year, and often February, become mad scrambles to get caught up in time to prepare taxes.  I really would like to avoid that next year.  Working a little bit daily, keeping things caught up weekly, will achieve that goal and that is my big lofty goal for 2019.

Consistent.
