2017 Year End Wrap Up Part One

Can you believe that 2017 is almost done?! How did that happen? I’m really not ready for 2018 to begin … I feel like there’s just too much left undone from this year.

My blogging sort of went down the tubes this fall, didn’t it? And yet, here I sit researching new WordPress themes and making plans for developing a new website with new blogs. I intended to do this in January 2017, but I ended up traveling with Bill to Houston for a couple of weeks and all thoughts of blog updates and changes went out the window. Here it is, almost January again, so I guess if I’m ever going to get it done, I need to start. Baby steps.

Looking back on 2017, here’s some highlights:

January – two weeks in Houston, having fun exploring downtown during the week and walking Galveston Beach on the weekend. It was surreal watching the flooding from Hurricane Harvey and seeing the streets I walked submerged.

February – my Master Gardener class was under way. I had so very much fun with that class and am still enjoying the volunteering. Graduation is January 17th and then I will be a full-fledged Master Gardener.

March – hail storms, several of them, which caused significant damage. We worked with contractors thru August before everything was repaired.

April – Master Gardener Plant sale was held and what a lot of work that was! It was also fun. And then I began volunteering in area gardens, preparing them for the Spring Garden Tour. We also had a new HVAC system installed in the house – it’s a lot of fun to be able to adjust the settings while in bed, using the phone app! It’s a crazy world we live in.

May – Instead of working the day of the Master Gardener Spring Garden Tour, Bill & I toured the gardens that I had helped prepare earlier. We saw some interesting things and gained some good ideas of how we want to proceed with the landscaping of our property. And Kat & Fiona came out for the last week of May, relaxing and swimming in the pool.

June – We took a grand trip to Idaho to see my family and explore the area. There was so much to see and do, that I hope we are able to go back someday soon. As soon as we got home from that trip, I helped with the Junior Master Naturalist day camp, which was quite an experience. I likened it to birthing a baby, lots of noise, confusion, pain, and very exhausting, and when you were done you swore you’d never do it again. But I’ve already signed on to help with next year’s camp. Crazy, I know.

This is getting rather long, so look for Part Two tomorrow!
