I finally sorted out the pattern and successfully created an accurate swatch (baby doll blanket).
Kat’s Bargello Afghan Pattern
Use two – four colors, as desired. Base chain and first five rows in first color. After that, alternate colors for each Row 5 & 6 of pattern. Finish off last six rows in original color.
Beginning Chain in multiples of 5 + 4 extra
For a Baby doll blanket, chain 39 / For a full-sized blanket chain 239
Full-sized blanket 231 rows in length
Row 1: Join at first chain with single crochet (leaving enough at start to make fringe), sc across, finish off (leaving enough at end for fringe)
Row 2: Join at sc with sc (leave for fringe), 2sc, (chain 3, 2sc) across, finish with sc and finish off (leaving fringe)
Row 3: Join at first sc with sc (leave for fringe), chain 2, (3dc into sc two rows below, working dc in front of the 3 chain of previous row, then chain 2) across, end with sc in last stitch and finish off (leaving fringe)
Row 4: Join at first sc with sc (leave for fringe), 2 dc in sc two rows below, working dc in front of the 2 chain of previous row, (3 chain, 2 dc in sc two rows below, in front of the 2 chain of previous row) across, end with sc and finish off (leaving fringe)
Row 5: Join at first sc with sc (leave for fringe), chain 2, (3dc into dc two rows below, working dc in front of the 3 chain of previous row, then chain 2) across, end with sc in last stitch and finish off (leaving fringe)
Repeat Rows 4 & 5 until desired length (alternating color as desired)
Last 6 rows same color as beginning rows:
Sixth Row from end: Join at first sc with sc (leave for fringe), chain 2, (3dc into dc two rows below, working dc in front of the 3 chain of previous row, then chain 2) across, end with sc in last stitch and finish off (leaving fringe)
Fifth Row from end: Join at first sc with sc (leave for fringe), 2 dc in sc two rows below, working dc in front of the 2 chain of previous row, (3 chain, 2 dc in sc two rows below, in front of the 2 chain of previous row) across, end with sc and finish off (leaving fringe)
Fourth Row from end: Join at first sc with sc (leave for fringe), sc 2 into last row, (3dc into dc two rows below, working dc in front of the 3 chain of previous row, then sc 2 into last row) across, end with sc in last stitch and finish off (leaving fringe)
Third Row from end: Join at first sc with sc (leave for fringe), sc across, finish off (leaving fringe)
Second Row from end: Join at first sc with sc (leave for fringe), sc across, finish off (leaving fringe)
Final row: Join at first sc with slip stitch (leave for fringe), slip stitch across, finish off (leaving for fringe)
To complete, trim fringe to desired length.
