Florida Tourist Fay

Fay is turning out to be quite fond of touring Florida. The Keys, then Ft. Myers, on over to Orlando, then let’s visit Daytona Beach and St. Augustine, now Gainesville … and headed Tallahassee way. After that, maybe she’ll take a tour of Panama Beach and on over finally to Alabama. Fay is proving to be quite the tourist.

So far, we’ve had just some nice balmy breezes last night and this morning and some scattered showers this morning. But it sounds as though we could see up to ten inches of rain between now and Sunday.

All the schools in the area announced by yesterday noon that they would be closed today. It’s interesting how day care and Mommy’s working has changed such things as school closings. When we were kids, we would listen avidly to the radio at 6:30 a.m., waiting for that snow closing announcement, hoping we could crawl back into bed instead of hop on this school bus at 7:10 a.m. Now, if there’s a forecast of inclement weather, announcements of school closings are usually made at least 12 hours, if not 24 hours early, giving all parents time to arrange alternate child care or schedule a day off from work.

In preparation for Fay, we ran errands yesterday, stocking up on diapers and milk, doing the Friday library visit a day early and got hair cuts. Yes, I even got a hair cut!! Much shorter and much lighter weight. I slept through the night for a change, not waking up sweating from all that hair on my neck. It was lovely! When I get a chance, I’ll take a pic and post up before and after pictures.

We’ll se how we ride out Fay. Hopefully there will be no loss of power; this household without power for longer than an hour or two is not a pretty sight!
