Fireflies?

I am back home again and getting caught up on everything, I think. All but my website updates, but then there never really is a “caught up” on those. It was a productive trip to Alabama, cleaning and packing and preparing our old place for sale. I was able to spend some time visiting with Dad and Mary and even got to see Charles and Rebecca’s apartment in Hartselle. Plus, as an added bonus, I was able to go dancing at the Brindlee Mountain Promenaders on Friday night. I didn’t realize how much I missed dancing in general and dancing there specifically. Maybe we will have to try dancing again here in Tallahassee sometime soon, if work and class schedules this fall permit.

One thing I noticed when I was back in Alabama was the fireflies. As soon as it began to get dark at the trailer in the woods, the fireflies were out. And then I realized that I have not seen any fireflies here in Tallahassee this year. I am sure we had some last year, but none this year. Is it because it is a wetter year? Or is it because the city sprays more for mosquitoes in a wetter year and thus wipes out the fireflies? I really do not know anything about fireflies; maybe my good friend over at the Growing With Science blog can explain why I am not seeing fireflies this year!
