3 Quick Thoughts on Sunday, March 18, 2018

Another busy Saturday, including two trips to Lowe’s with the Neon to pick up bags of soil and compost.  We added 25 cubic feet to the front flower bed (outside the office window), and then I was able to transplant the 8 Sweet William flowers into that bed.  There’s another 5 cubic feet left in bags to use on the new bed I will be building in front of the lattice that conceals the compost bins and where I intend to plant a Confederate Jessmine flowering evergreen vine.

We also picked up linseed oil and Bill applied one coat to the new fencing around the compost bin area.  We’ll need more oil to do a second coat and then I can begin to build that flower bed.

I saw blueberry shrubs at Lowe’s yesterday and they were loaded with blueberries.  I’m so tempted to take the $50 gift card I have and buy two plants.  They are Bountiful Blue Blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum) supplied by Monrovia.  I hesitate because the blueberry roots I bought three years ago didn’t pan out – but these plants are big and beautiful.  Can I resist?  And where would I put them, because I’d need more than one, for sure.   It’s suggested to pair them with Sunshine Blue Blueberries.  Hmmm … stay tuned.

  1. Our blueberry plants have been hit and miss over the years. Some did well on their own while some were hit and missed with the riding lawnmower. 🙁 Remember to acidify your soil for blueberries. 😉
